An introduction to the scheme and our role within it:
We provide dedicated 24-hour care and support services in 2 Extra Care Schemes. They are located in Cherry Tree Gardens at Houghton & Haddington Vale in Doxford Park.
Extra care housing is designed primarily with the needs of older people in mind and with some care and support available on site. It’s important that it isn’t confused with a residential care home and expectations of us as the on-site care provider should take this into account. Gentoo are the housing provider and, whilst we work very closely and positively with them in the interests of all tenants and visitors, we can’t take responsibility for housing issues.Image of Haddington Vale (right)
Some tenants will receive specific support services either as a result of an assessed need from Sunderland council or another commissioned service including private arrangements.
We also provide a well-being service to all tenants living within the scheme regardless of how their care is funded.
Wellbeing support - the apartments are all linked to an assistive technology system enabling any emergency calls made from the tenants to be picked up by the care provider within the main building.
Emergency calls will be responded to urgently. Other call requests may have to be addressed later dependent on staff priorities such as attending other tenants planned care calls or emergencies.

Extra care housing is different because:

Private services we can provide within the scheme include personal care & support to people in their own homes; domestic services to people in their own homes; companion services at home or in the community including accompanying shopping/leisure/activity trips and appointments.
